Caltrans has moved its proposed 1.8km long Last Chance Grade highway tunnel in northern California into detailed design following completion of the project’s environmental approval phase, with construction targeted to begin in 2031.

The first tunnelling drive has been completed for an upgrade to Knutsford’s sewer network.

In addition to the six high-speed platforms, eight further platforms will be built at ground level.
