Line 19: what is the status of this metro line project in Val-d’Oise?

With four new metro lines set to open soon in Île-de-France, a support committee for line 19 of the Grand Paris Express was officially launched last June. The goal? To support the creation of an additional metro line connecting the La Défense area to Roissy Airport, serving several towns in the Val-d'Oise department. So, what is the status of this project? Read on to find out more.

In the coming years, public transport users in the Paris region will see their daily lives change with the arrival of four new metro lines: lines 151617, and 18. These lines will be put into service between 2026 and 2031, enabling nearly three million passengers to travel on the entire Grand Paris Express network. To achieve this, 68 stations, 80% of which will be transfer stations, will be built.

However, as the Val-d’Oise Department points out, of these 68 new stations, only one is located in Val-d’Oise. This is Gonesse station, located between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Le Bourget airports on the future line 17.

On June 13, the Val-d’Oise Departmental Council officially launched a support committee for Line 19. The objective is simple: to support the metro line 19 project, which would cross the Val-d’Oise department and connect the La Défense area to Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport (Roissy CDG) in just 35 minutes.

This project, supported by the Île-de-France Region and included in the environmental master plan (SDRIF-e) since 2023, would thus complement the current Grand Paris Express (GPE) project.

In concrete terms, the Metro Line 19 project could facilitate travel for many public transport users in the Paris region thanks to a route estimated at between 25 and 30 km, the creation of around ten stations (Argenteuil, Pont de Bezons, Garges-Sarcelles, Ermont-Eaubonne, Pontoise, etc.) and connections with 14 existing or planned lines (RER B, C, D, and E, Transilien lines H, J, and L, and metro lines 15, 16, and 17).

«We cannot leave our region behind. Line 19 is essential for the balanced development of Val-d’Oise, for our businesses and our residents,» said Marie-Christine Cavecchi, President of the Department, on June 13 during the creation of the Line 19 support committee.

So, what is the current status of this project? In July 2025, Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) launched studies to refine the route, examine the integration of stations, and assess the socio-economic profitability of the project. If all the lights are green at the end of these studies, then metro line 19 is expected to be operational between 2040 and 2045.
