Budimex has reached the first four milestones on the construction of a new railway line in Poland.

The company has begun engineering works on railway line No. 622 on the Podłęże–Gdów section and the railway link No. 627 Podłęże–Podłęże Balachówka.

Preparatory works are under way for the 900m-long T11 railway tunnel – one of the key elements of the Podłęże-Gdów line – as well as two 1.4km-long railway bridges, a 600m bridge and a 600m-long viaduct.

Budimex contract directorAdrian Jasiówkasaid the project had entered a key implementation phase phase.

“The commencement of the construction of the most important engineering structures required professional preparations, project co-ordination and the mobilisation of significant technical resources. This is one of the most demanding railway investments currently being implemented in Poland, which will use advanced execution technologies, including tunnel drilling using the TBM method and the construction of large-scale bridge structures,” he said.

The PLN2.57bn (€600m) contract is one of the largest railway contracts Budimex is currently undertaking.

It includes the design of SRK equipment and the construction of approximately 19km of double-track railway line No 622 and single-track railway link No 627 along with their integration into the existing railway lines No 91 and No 95. There will be two new railway stations at Podłęże Balachówka and Gdów and passenger stops at Wiatowice and Zagórze.

As well as the T11 tunnel, Budimex will build 17 bridges and 11 railway viaducts, and five road viaducts.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2029.
