SRL East tunnelling preparations at Burwood
At the Burwood site, the tunnel boring machines are being assembled. They will then be lowered in sections into the TBM launch site. Also, two acoustic sheds are being built there. They are intended to reduce construction noise for local residents, as Victoria’s Big Build notes.
Support systems and Box Hill launch works
Meanwhile, crews are installing infrastructure for tunnelling. For example, a conveyor system will remove excavated soil from the tunnels. In addition, power cabling has been installed. It runs between the network support facility in Sinnott Street and the construction site. It will supply the TBMs.
At the same time, work is advancing on the second TBM launch site, as previously covered by Railway Supply. Also, work is advancing on the underground space planned for the future station. Separately, the machines will later head towards Box Hill. Still, underground concrete support walls are being built. Meanwhile, excavation is set to begin in the middle of this year.
