Engineering and Innovation meet Archaeology, Architecture and Art
Naples · 3-9 May 2019
45th ITA-AITES General Assembly and
World Tunnel Congress
About The Congress
The conference will propose the traditional topics on design and construction of underground works focusing on tunneling, engineering and innovation, combining some unusual topics suggested by the Neapolitan area which are true Italian trademarks, such as history (Archeology), design (Architecture) and genius & creativity (Art).
The Neapolitan area is the cradle of underground works that date back the Roman period and at the same time it is an innovative and future-oriented city. Therefore, the WTC delegates will enjoy to visit the tunneling history from the Roman period to the newest metro stations (in 2015 Toledo won the ITA award for the “Innovative Use of Underground Space).
Moreover, thanks to its morphologic structure and its long experience in building tunnels and underground works dating back 5,000 years ago, Italy is able to offer a wide variety of A.A.A. - Archaeology, Architecture and Art - technical visits along, with the job-site visit to the longest underground railway stretch of the world:
- NAPLES: the Borbonic Tunnel, Greek-Roman Aqueduct, the underground remains of the Roman Theatre
- ROME: Line C – the ‘Archeological’ Metro
- BRENNER: the Brenner Base Tunnel
Last but not least WTC 2019 in Naples will be an opportunity to organize special educational sessions. Some WTC sessions will be broadcasted by new media to universities and cultural associations, expanding the audience that can benefit from the knowledge shared by international experts.
Even the social program will be an opportunity to experience the archaeological sites of this beautiful setting.
